What is CanHockey?

This program is designed for skaters with an interest in entering hockey programs.

CanHockey is full of action with a focus on developing basic skating skills including balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skaters must have completed a minimum of Canskate Stage 3 to register. For safety reasons, full hockey equipment is required.

What equipment do skaters require?

  1. Hockey skates. Please take the time to have your skater fitted properly and ensure new skates have been sharpened before your 1st session.
  2. A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory. Bicycle or skiing helmets are not
    acceptable.
  3. Full hockey equipment. This includes-gloves, helmet with cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, shin guards, stick and hockey pants.

Who is on the ice with the skaters?

Our CanHockey program is taught by coaches certified with Skate Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada. They are also First Aid certified.

This program has a coach to skater ratio of 1:10, meaning there will be a minimum of 1 coach for every 10 skaters.

What is Advanced CanHockey?

Advanced CanHockey is the second stage of our CanHockey program and is intended for skaters at an advanced level of skill, as determined by our coaching team.

How do I know my skater is ready for CanHockey or Advanced CanHockey?

To be successful in our CanHockey program, skaters must have completed Stage 3 of the Canskate program. If you are unsure if your skater is ready for CanHockey, please contact our program coordinator.

To be successful in our Advanced CanHockey program-skaters must be invited by our coaches or will be subject to a tryout.

What is the Skate Canada membership fee?

All skaters must be registered with Skate Canada prior to taking to the ice. The annual membership fee for the 2023/2024 season will be $58.65. Skate Canada membership and insurance is valid from September 1st 2023 to August 31st 2024. This fee is 100% non-refundable.
